Wystawi.ai: Reducing the time to issue e‑Prescriptions on mobile devices by 70%

In 2024, more than 97% of prescriptions in Poland were issued electronically. Each e‑prescription required a process that, on average, consisted of 14 steps—most of which involved entering or sending authorization data. Inspired by physicians, Codewave aimed to streamline this workflow and free up valuable clinical time for patient care. They succeeded in reducing the process to just 4 steps.
Key insights
70% reduction in the steps required to issue an e‑prescription
30‑second average time to issue an e‑prescription on a mobile device
20,000 medicines included in the database
The challenge: high complexity of connecting to the National Health System
Since 2020, physicians in Poland have been able to issue electronic prescriptions instead of paper ones. The core of this process is the national digital platform—Centrum e‑Zdrowia—and eGabinet, a digital clinical interface where e‑prescriptions can be issued. Because of strict medical data‑security requirements, the system requires regular authentication through banking systems or national services such as ZUS. Unfortunately, this workflow is time‑consuming, relies on multiple interconnected systems, and can take up to 14 steps to complete. Key challenges • repeated logins and authorizations, • delayed SMS verification codes, • complexity of using electronic signatures. In clinical settings, this process is often supported by additional data‑management systems. However, for physicians working in the field—or those who need to issue a prescription for themselves or a family member—the process becomes a significant barrier.
The solution: leveraging proven mobile authorization tools
In clinics, physicians typically work on desktop systems. But when working outside the office, they rely on mobile devices. Codewave decided to leverage this opportunity and develop a mobile‑first solution. Key features: • Streamlined prescription workflow, reduced to essential steps • Secure storage of authentication protocols within the app • Biometric authentication (Face ID, fingerprint) • Voice and text recognition • Integration with the national P1 Patient Portal (IKP) • Integration with the National Register of Medicinal Products.

The results: reducing the e‑prescription workflow by 70%
By implementing native mobile authentication methods—based on biometric verification—Codewave significantly shortened the most time‑consuming part of issuing e‑prescriptions. The process was reduced from 14 steps to 4, creating substantial potential to streamline physicians’ workflows, especially when providing medical care outside standard clinical settings. With Wystawi.ai, clinicians can issue a new prescription in as little as 30 seconds. Security remains a top priority. The app fully complies with all requirements of the Polish National Health System, integrates with its key components, and maintains complete interoperability with the National Patient Portal. The authentication protocol is stored exclusively within the app on the user’s device and is never shared with third parties.
